Pulse creation: I am not sure where to start

Congratulations! You have made the decision to use Kelvin Pulse to facilitate healthier, happier places to learn. You have a powerful tool at your fingertips, but maybe you are just not sure where to get started. Below, we share recommendations to help you with your first student pulse:

Prepare

  • Start off by creating a 3 question pulse for students for a general overview of your schools (e.g. What is one thing you are looking forward to this school year?)
  • Communicate to staff that you are sending a pulse

Learn

  • Once the pulse is complete, thank participants for their answers (e.g. at assembly, in morning announcements, or another communication channel)
  • Analyze the data for an overview of what people are enjoying and struggling with
  • Notice what you are doing well, and make a note to point out what is causing it so you can continue doing this intentionally

Act

  • Focus on 1-3 areas you want to improve on. They do not have to be the biggest issues if you do not have the resources to deal with them.
  • Think of actionable steps to improve
  • Set up a pulse survey each month on those specific topics (Eg: Bullying and school cleanliness)
  • Analyze the data and the steps you are taking to improve

Repeat

  • When you are satisfied with the positive results, start the process again by focusing on different areas
  • Once you start solving student problems based on the data, begin surveying teachers and families
