The purpose of this help document is to provide some of examples of digging deeper to locate why the student is showing overdue on the IEP Widget.

Please contact your student information key individual (such as the building secretary, etc.) so that they can be sure they have ended enrollment in your Student Information System (SIS).  This will then be pushed to Infinity during the nightly upload and the IEP should no longer be showing on the widget.

  • Has the student graduated but the wrong enrollment end date was entered? For example:  A Student showing Overdue IEP list even though the student has no enrollment anymore...they graduated. Their IEP would be due 9-7-11. The district exited him 6-3-11.   Issue was that the enrollment end date was entered incorrectly--instead of 6/3/12 they put 6/3/3012. (edited)   If so, correct the end date within your Student Information System (if the data from this year is still being extracted) or manually update the exit date in Infinity.

Verify that the 30 Day Target Date is the expected date.  

  • If the date entered is incorrect, then notify your district/ISD Infinity contact.  
  • If the date entered is correct, then once the IEP is published it will be considered overdue and will move to the IEPs Completed After Due Date on the IEP Widget and will stay there for one year.

Please verify the following within your Permission to Place:

  • Verify that you have not entered in the Current IEP Date with the PROJECTED DATE you think the IEP will be completed by.  This field is meant to have the Current IEP date which would be from the previous district.  If this is incorrect, please contact your district/ISD Infinity contact.
  • Verify that you have not entered in the 30 Day Target Date as the Current IEP Date within the Permission to Place (P2P).   If this is incorrect, please contact your district/ISD Infinity contact.

  • Verify that the correct information was entered into the Permission to Place.
  • Verify that there is a Previous IEP Date on the Important Dates Page.  If not, please add this and it should remove the student from being overdue as long as it is less then 365 days from today's date.
Expand or collapse content Student was enrolled at a district within the ISD/RESA and moved to your district with an overdue IEP

Verify the following:

  • The IEP date may have been entered incorrectly on the Permission to Place (it needs to be entered as the Current IEP Date).
  • Verify the Current IEP date is showing correctly on the Important Dates Page.

If both of the above are correct then the IEP will show overdue based on the last district's overdue date.

First steps:

1.  Verify the student is still enrolled in your district.  

2.  Look at the Publish Prior To Date Column on the IEP Widget to locate the date the IEP was expected to be published.

3.  Take a look at your IEP Details Page to see

     a) if the IEP is still open (not published).  If it is open then please work with the IEP team to verify the IEP is ready to be published, etc.  Note:  If it has passed the Publish Prior to Date it is considered LATE and will move to the Completed After Due Date section within the IEP Widget and will stay there for one year.

     b) If the IEP has been published, compare the Publish Prior To Date to the IEP Published Date on the IEP Details Page.  If it has passed the Publish Prior to Date it is considered LATE and will move to the Completed After Due Date section within the IEP Widget and will stay there for one year.

Expand or collapse content Is it a Second Initial?

IEP Widget shows completed after due date but it is a second initial situation.  The reason for this is because there was an Ineligible Initial held previously. The system is looking. at the first REED's due date and this type of overdue should be ignored.

Verify your end dates.  The end date on the IEP may be one day after the published date or another date entered incorrectly that shortens the IEP duration.  If need be, you can change this on the Follow Up Details page of the IEP or ask your key special education district/ISD.

  1. Any IEP that was published after the Publish Prior to Date will show up within this area on the IEP Widget.  The IEP will fall off the overdue one year after the published IEP date.
  2. The IEP widget does not support situations where a student is eligible, then becomes ineligible, then becomes eligible again (all within a single calendar year). This could have serious performance ramifications.  The IEP will fall off the overdue one year after the published IEP date.
  3. IEPs showing overdue on the dashboard for students who are no longer on your caseload.  If it became overdue while you were listed as a provider then it will stay there for a year even if the provider changes.
  4. IEP is completed after enrollment ends for the year are showing overdue (but the IEP was completed on time).  Once your site has been rolled over to the next school year this issue will resolve itself.

NOTE: MDE Guidance on Timely IEPs gave the following scenario:  An IEP is held on 4/2/2013 and a new IEP is held on or before 4/1/2014.  Any IEP held beyond 4/1/2014 (for this example) will be considered late.

Expand or collapse content Is There an Open Amendment?

Is there open amendment?  If so, once the amendment is published the IEP will no longer show open beyond the meeting date.

The IEP is still open after the meeting date.  If the meeting date has past and the IEP is still not published you will need to publish it.  If the publish date is after the IEP due date then the IEP will be considered LATE and it will move to the IEPs Completed After Due Date section within the IEP Widget and will stay there for one year.

If a student is an initial then they will not show within the IEP Widget.  Those invited can still search for them and find them within the REED if the user is a part of the REED.

Expand or collapse content Summer (No Enrollment)

The IEP Widget will show zero students during the summer for any site that does not have current enrollment.  Please run your caseload as of the last day of school and review the IEPC column for those coming due in September, until the students have current enrollment.

  1. The report for IEPs completed past due date will only work with published/closed IEPs/P2Ps.  
  2. If you are seeing the student appearing twice on the IEP Widget. it is more than likely due to two active Primary Disability lines.
  3. The provider who is ONLY on the REED  will still see the student on the Open IEP report within the IEP widget.
  4. The IEP widget will show that an IEP needs to be completed for any student who is Early On and MMSE (Michigan Mandatory Special Education Eligible).  You do not need to do an IEP if the child is not turning three.  Instead, once you have completed your IFSP this will fall off the widget.
