How does Kelvin import family contact data?

Updated on

By connecting directly to the district/school Student Information System (SIS) via an API or by receiving flat files to an SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) we can import the family information. This allows us to keep the enrollment, rostering, demographic, sub-group, users, contacts, etc. synced between Kelvin and your SIS on a nightly basis.

Family Pulses are sent to emails and/or phone numbers for the primary contact(s) associated to the student.

Trouble Shooting

Contact data can be difficult to import. If a student's family is missing in Kelvin, here are some first steps for troubleshooting:

  • Verify/Ensure the student's contact is type = primary. If all of the students' contacts are marked as "secondary" or "other" they won't be imported. This is an important step to verify in order to avoid sending check-ins to custodial contacts.
  • Verify/Ensure that the contact has a phone number and/or an email address. There are cases where a student does have a primary contact, but that contact doesn't have a phone number and email address.
