Can I break confidentiality?

Updated on

Accessing raw data, which breaks confidentiality, is a permissions-based feature available only to the System Administrator.

Kelvin is committed to protecting respondents, and keeping their responses confidential. This means that we do not share who individually responded to what (For example, we would not share if Student A responded to, "Do you like your teacher?" with "No"), so we can create a safe space for your students, staff and parents to respond honestly.

However, there are very real (and potentially legal) situations where confidentiality must be broken. A few examples may be when someone communicates that they are going to harm themselves or others, when their mental health is at risk, etc.  We trust districts to make the determination on when confidentiality must be broken and this ability is limited to System Administrators.

In these special cases system administrators may break confidentiality by accessing the Download Raw Responses report from the Summary Report page within a Pulse.

Navigate to the Summary Report.

1.  Click on the (...) menu in the top right corner of the report to access the report options.

2. A blue menu will open. Click on the Download Raw Responses which will include Personally identifiable Information (PII).

3.  A rationale box will appear. Please provide your rationale for viewing the confidential data. We log this for your protection and ours. Once you have completed providing your "why", click on the Red "Yes, I want to break confidentiality" button.

4. The data will download as a .csv file.
